211 is an agile partner available to adapt to the current needs of the community. Over 7700 calls came in from January – November of this year for residents looking for affordable housing. Referrals are always made but when the Housing Authority received funds to provide emergency housing vouchers to eligible individuals and families, they realized that they did not have the staff to handle the calls and help with the screenings. HACSJ reached out to 211 knowing that 211 has experience handling a high call volume. 211 assisted with screening callers to determine their eligibility, completing the initial applications and directly referring the applicants to HACSJ. Over 2,000 applications were sent to HACSJ from 211!
