Have you heard of the life-changing Discovery ChalleNGe Academy program in Lathrop? DCA is a quasi-military residential program for teens between the ages of 16 to 18 who are at risk of not graduating high school. The Academy is a joint effort of the California National Guard and the San Joaquin County Office of Education. We are Inspired by the number of students they have been able to help! Since DCA started in 2017, more than 900 cadets have completed the program.
“Our program has helped hundreds of students get back on track towards earning their high school diploma,” said DCA Principal Brandy Thurman. “The DCA cadre and educational team care deeply about our students and work together to support their success,” said Thurman. “Students live on campus, which provides us with unique opportunities to connect and build strong bonds,” she said. “It’s amazing to see students gain leadership skills, become more confident, and reclaim their lives over the 22 weeks they spend at DCA.”
